THE SHORT ANSWER
Today is 今日 (gam1 jat6), tomorrow is 聽日 (ting1 jat6), and now is 而家 (ji4 gaa1). “See you tomorrow” is 聽日見 (ting1 jat6 gin3). For a clock time, 幾點 asks “what time”; for a calendar date, 幾號 asks “what date”.
NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE
Day, date or clock time?
- Today今日gam1 jat6
The day that includes now.
- Tomorrow聽日ting1 jat6
The following day.
- What time?幾點gei2 dim2
A clock time.
- What date?幾號gei2 hou6
A calendar date.
Hear the day before adding more detail
今日 identifies today and 聽日 identifies tomorrow. In 聽日見, 見 adds the meeting idea: “see you tomorrow”. In 我今日好忙, 今日 locates being busy on today rather than saying that the person is always busy.
而家 refers to now. It is useful in the question 而家幾點, “what time is it now?” Read the three time words first, then play their complete recorded examples. The recording links below play the whole sentence; they are not separate chopped recordings of an isolated time word.
| Time word | Jyutping | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 今日 | gam1 jat6 | today |
| 聽日 | ting1 jat6 | tomorrow |
| 而家 | ji4 gaa1 | now |

幾點 and 幾號 ask different questions
而家幾點 asks for the current clock time. 今日幾號呀 asks for today’s calendar date. The shared 幾 does not make these interchangeable: the word after it tells you which kind of information is missing.
你幾點得閒呀 asks what time the other person is free. That is different again from asking what time it currently is. Listen for 得閒 at the end of the question and connect it with availability. In a real plan, the day may already be understood from the conversation; if it is unclear, confirm it rather than relying on the clock time alone.

今日幾號呀? · gam1 jat6 gei2 hou6 aa3
今日 identifies today, and 幾號 asks for the calendar date.
Make a loose plan more precise
聽朝九點見 gives a more exact arrangement: tomorrow morning at nine. 聽朝 specifies tomorrow morning, and 九點 supplies the clock time. It is more precise than 聽日見, which says tomorrow without a time of day.
The evening pair below shows why you should listen to the whole reply. 今晚七點得唔得呀 proposes seven tonight. 七點半先得呀 says the speaker cannot make it until half past seven. Hearing 七點 in both lines is not enough: 半 and the rest of the reply change the agreement.
Later and next time leave different details open
我陣間打畀你 says the speaker will call later. 我遲啲覆你 says they will reply later. These give useful timing without a numbered clock time; you still need to agree a specific time if that detail matters to the plan.
下次啦 means “maybe next time” in the saved example. 下次 points to another occasion, not automatically to tomorrow. Compare it with 聽日見: one leaves the next occasion open, while the other names a day. Before ending a planning exchange, check which day and time both people have actually accepted.

TAKE IT WITH YOU
Take it into a conversation
Which line means tomorrow morning at nine? Which asks today’s date? Does 下次啦 promise to meet tomorrow?
See one possible answer
聽朝九點見 (ting1 ziu1 gau2 dim2 gin3) means “See you tomorrow morning at nine”. 今日幾號呀? (gam1 jat6 gei2 hou6 aa3) asks today’s date. 下次啦 (haa6 ci3 laa1) leaves the next occasion open; it does not promise tomorrow.
Keep these in mind
- Hear 今日, 聽日 or 而家 before interpreting the rest of the line.
- 幾點 asks about a clock time; 幾號 asks about a date.
- 聽朝 specifies tomorrow morning.
- Later and next time do not establish an exact meeting time.
