The short version
Canto School is a product published and operated by Segis Junior AB. It works without an account. Learning progress stays on your device, user-initiated speaking attempts stay private and temporary, and Segis Junior AB does not use advertising, analytics, profiling, or cross-app tracking in the app.
Information handled by the app
Canto School stores completed lessons, review performance, saved phrases, XP, streaks, and related course state locally on your device. This information is used only to provide learning and review features. It is not transmitted to Segis Junior AB.
Audio and microphone
The app plays recorded lesson and phrase audio. It does not use device text-to-speech or synthetic tones when a recording is unavailable.
In a Speak it activity, Canto School accesses the microphone only after you press or hold the microphone control labeled Hold to speak. The short attempt is written to temporary storage on your device so you can replay it. On supported iPhones, the app may use Apple's on-device Cantonese speech recognizer to check whether the intended phrase was understood. Canto School requires the on-device capability and never falls back to online recognition.
The recording and recognition result are not uploaded, shared with Segis Junior AB, used for advertising or analytics, or added to saved learning progress. The recording is deleted when you retry or leave the activity, and an active attempt is discarded if the app leaves the foreground. If private checking is unavailable or speech recognition permission is off, you can still record and use Hear mine locally when microphone permission is granted. You can also practise aloud without a check, or choose Quiet (announced as Quiet instead by VoiceOver). Quiet practice replaces speaking with an unscored word-tapping exercise and does not access the microphone.
Support and external services
If you contact support by email, your email provider and the support mailbox process the address and message you provide. Please do not include sensitive information. Segis Junior AB uses the information in your message only to provide support, meet legal obligations, and prevent abuse. Apple separately processes information when you download or update the app under Apple's own privacy policy.
Retention and deletion
Learning progress remains on your device until you use Reset course progress, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Reset deletes current progress and Canto School migration backups on that device. Support messages are retained only as reasonably needed to answer the request, meet legal obligations, and prevent abuse.
Children and changes
Canto School is a general-audience educational app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. This policy may be updated when the app or applicable requirements change; the effective date identifies the current version.
