THE SHORT ANSWER
Give the restaurant the date, time and number of people, then confirm the details they repeat. A reservation and a queue ticket are different arrangements: asking for a place in the queue does not confirm a table at a set time. At arrival, 有冇訂位呀 asks whether you have a booking.
Prepare the four details the booking needs
Write down the date, intended time, party size and booking name. A phone number may also be requested for contact. Keep these visible while you speak; there is little benefit in making the task harder by relying on memory for a long number. Use the actual restaurant’s booking process where it provides one.
The text example 我想訂今晚七點,四位 gives tonight, seven o’clock and four people. It is an authored practice request, not a recording from Auntie. For a booking on another date, make that date explicit rather than leaving the listener to assume that every request concerns tonight.

I would like to book for four at seven tonight.
An alternative time is not the same booking
If your preferred time is unavailable, the restaurant may suggest another. Listen for the changed part instead of hearing only a reassuring tone and saying yes. Seven and seven thirty are different commitments. Repeat the accepted time and party size once so both sides have the same information.
You can ask 今晚七點得唔得呀, “Would seven tonight work?” as a focused availability question. It still needs the party size and date to belong to a complete booking. A useful practice partner should deliberately offer a different time so that you must decide whether to accept it.

Say whether you have a reservation
At the door, 有冇訂位呀 asks whether you have booked. If you have, identify the booking rather than starting a new request for a table. Showing the confirmation can help when a name or number is difficult to hear. Check that the staff are finding your existing booking and not adding you to a walk-in queue.
If you have no reservation, say so and give the number of people needing a table. A short answer can be enough because the host has just established the topic. Do not use 可唔可以搭枱呀 as a substitute: that asks about sharing a table, which is another seating question.

No reservation; two people.
A queue number and a waiting estimate do different jobs
我想攞籌 asks to take a queue ticket. A numbered queue lets staff identify your turn, while a waiting-time estimate tells you roughly how long it might take. Neither should be mistaken for a guaranteed seating time. Follow the venue’s instructions about where to wait and how your turn will be called.
而家叫到幾多號呀 asks which number is being called now. Keep your own ticket or reference available so you can compare it with the answer. For a complete practice, finish with the agreed state: a confirmed future booking, an accepted alternative time or a current queue position. Each has a different next action.

YOUR TURN
Try it yourself
You asked for seven o’clock, but the restaurant offers seven thirty. What should you confirm before ending the conversation?
See one possible answer
Confirm the accepted time, date, party size and booking name. 七點半,四位 gives seven thirty and four people in our example; it should not be mistaken for the original seven-o’clock request.
Keep these in mind
- Prepare date, time, party size and name before booking.
- Repeat any changed detail.
- A reservation, a queue ticket and table sharing are different arrangements.
