Ask the price of something in front of you
呢個幾多錢？ asks “How much is this?” It works especially well when you can point to the item. Practise the whole question first, then listen to a price answer and repeat the amount you heard.
A shop exchange can move quickly. If you miss a number, ask the person to repeat it rather than guessing. The repair phrase is just as useful as the price question.
Ask for the item you need
我想買呢個 says that you want to buy this. 有冇細碼？ checks whether a small size is available. 可唔可以試吓？ asks whether you can try it. Each question has a different purpose, so choose the one that fits.
Practise a complete shopping sequence: indicate the item, ask its price, then ask about size or trying it if needed. You can change one turn without memorising a long script.
Recognise the payment step
A cashier may ask 現金定信用卡？, meaning “Cash or credit card?” 我畀現金 is a simple cash reply. In another setting, you can ask whether Octopus is accepted before you try to pay.
A final question may be about a receipt or bag. Learn one answer you are likely to use, such as “No bag, thanks,” so the interaction has a comfortable ending.
