Compare the Cantonese features, not the whole app catalogue

Ling offers a Hong Kong Cantonese course with beginner activities, dialogues and review. Its multilingual catalogue is a real benefit if you are learning more than Cantonese. Ling Web also gives it a browser-and-mobile workflow that Canto School’s native course does not currently offer.

The official language-support table is more specific than generic marketing: Cantonese writing and speaking lesson categories are marked unavailable. This does not mean you cannot say the words aloud; it means we do not count a feature from another language as a Cantonese exercise. Canto School’s optional speaking is record-and-compare, with word recognition on supported iPhones, not a tone grade.

Monthly flexibility versus an annual commitment

For the verified USD options, Ling is US$16.99 month to month and Canto School is US$7.99 on the US App Store. Ling’s US$89.99 yearly plan works out lower than twelve Canto School monthly payments, but it requires a year paid upfront. Canto School’s twelve payments total US$95.88 and are not an annual offer.

We recommend Canto School if your priority is practical Cantonese, a guided phone routine and flexibility to pay a month at a time. Ling can be the better purchase for someone who wants several languages and expects to use the annual plan.

Choose around the gap in your learning.

Sources and how we compared

Our competitor price research uses official product pages, pricing pages, help centres and app-store listings checked on 22 October 2026. Canto School’s free browser-course access was updated on 2 November 2026; the Duolingo course-audience answer carries its own check date. The comparison considers Cantonese availability, fit for English-speaking learners, practice format, pronunciation notation, offline access, feedback and the actual billing commitment. We have not independently tested every resource or measured learning outcomes. External links are source links, not affiliate links.

Prices are snapshots, not checkout quotes. Currency, tax, storefront, promotions and platform can change the amount. A prepaid yearly or two-year plan is labelled as such. We do not treat a monthly equivalent as a cancel-any-month price. A missing verified price is marked rather than guessed.

This page compares advertised access and study formats; we have not bought every plan or independently evaluated every recording. Current price and availability are controlled by the relevant provider.

Our overall recommendation favours a practical daily Cantonese course that combines guided practice and review. Different goals lead to different choices. We publish Canto School, so this is a disclosed product comparison, not an independent award or a scored laboratory review. Report a correction through Support.
